Why Choose JL Audio XDM400/4 4-Channel Amplifier?
Hear the Difference!
Experience fidelity for all and crystal-clear audio in your boat or car with the xdm amplifier's exclusive dual-mode input filter and differential-balanced inputs for outstanding noise rejection, while the NEXD™ equipped advanced switching technology delivers reliable high-power output from a compact chassis by reducing current draw and heat, all benefiting from studio-grade signal processing featuring audiophile-grade, fully variable filters and calibrated potentiometers beneath a sealed security cover.
Uninterrupted Power and Built to Last!
With ADVANCED ROLLBACK PROTECTION, our innovative circuit design ensures the amplifier will never shut down due to thermal overload, keeping your music playing even under the most demanding conditions, all while offering flexible AUTO TURN-ON CAPABILITIES (via auto signal sensing, auto DC-offset sensing, or conventional +12 volt turn-on lead), and a BUILT TOUGH all-aluminum, powder-coated housing that inhibits corrosion and features a sealed security cover to protect controls from the elements.
Power Your Entire System!
Our amplifier line offers complete flexibility, featuring FULL-RANGE STEREO variants available in 2, 4, 6, and 8 channels, specialized SYSTEM AMPLIFIERS with 3 models that power a whole system using 2 or 4 full-range outputs plus a dedicated subwoofer output, robust MONOBLOCK options with 300, 600, and 1000 watts, and versatile 24-VOLT OPTIONS available in XDM600/6-24V and XDM800/8-24V channel variants.
Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)
- • Why does my XDM400/4 keep shutting off or going into thermal protection when installed in my boat's storage compartment?
This happens when the amp is mounted in a sealed, unventilated area. Ensure there is a minimum of 1 to 2 inches of breathing space around the chassis and avoid mounting it upside down, which traps heat.
- • The status indicator is glowing solid red instead of blue. How do I determine if the amp is broken?
A solid red LED means Protection Mode is active. Unplug all speaker wires from the amp and turn it back on. If the light turns blue, your amplifier is fine and you have a short circuit in your speaker wiring.
- • Why do I hear a loud, high-pitched whining noise through my marine speakers that increases when I rev the boat engine?
This is alternator whine caused by a ground loop. Route the amplifier's ground wire directly to the main negative distribution block or engine block, and keep RCA cables separated from heavy 12V power lines.
- • I'm trying to use my phone or a Bluetooth receiver directly via RCA, but the volume is incredibly low. Why?
Direct phone jacks and Bluetooth adapters output weak line signals. Flip the amplifier's Input Voltage switch to "Low" (200mV - 4V) so the pre-amp can properly elevate the signal.
- • Why do my front marine speakers sound perfectly normal, but my rear tower speakers are completely silent?
This happens if you are only using a single pair of RCA cables. Change the Input Mode switch to "2 Ch." under the control cover to split and mirror the audio signal to the rear channels.
- • Do I need to buy an external Line Output Converter (LOC) if I am splicing into factory speaker wires?
No box is needed. The amplifier accepts high-level signals up to 8V directly through its RCA inputs. Simply use an RCA male adapter tail to connect the wires and set the Input Voltage switch to "High."
- • Why are my marine speakers distorting or sounding static-heavy at high volume levels?
The XDM400/4 lacks a built-in clipping indicator, making it easy to set the gain too high by ear. Use an oscilloscope or digital multimeter to properly match the input sensitivity to your source unit.
- • Can I safely bridge the XDM400/4 to power two high-output subwoofers?
Yes, you can bridge it to output 200W x 2 channels. However, the speaker load must be a minimum of 4 ohms per bridged channel; wiring a 2-ohm load will trigger an over-current shutdown.
- • Why does my amplifier turn off every time my car activates its automatic Stop-Start engine feature at a red light?
When the engine restarts, the starter drops the vehicle's line voltage below 10V, tripping the amp's low-voltage protection. You may need a secondary battery or a voltage stabilizer to maintain proper power.
- • Is the XDM400/4 completely waterproof, or can it be mounted out in the open on a boat deck?
It is water-resistant, not waterproof. It can handle humid air, salt spray, and occasional splashing, but cannot survive direct rain or spray hoses. Always mount it in a protected hull or console space.
